As Belize prepares to re-open the International Airport, we too are preparing to host our wonderful guests again. We are using this time to make the needed changes to put in place additional measures to ensure a safe travel experience for you, while also keeping our staff safe. We’re thankful for our off-the-beaten-path location that turns out to be ideal for social distancing as well as for guest relaxation, rest and recovery!
At the moment we are following guidelines from The Ministry of Health here in Belize and international experts as deemed appropriate. Contact us with any questions you may have that are not addressed here.
Q: Can I cancel or change my reservation?
A: If you have a current reservation with us we have remained flexible in rescheduling your stay. If you have questions about your current reservation please contact us. We will be reaching out to each of you as your dates approach to ensure you are prepared for you travel experience to Belize.
Any new reservations will be handled via our updated cancellation policies and rate structure.
Q: When you will be open?
A: The Belize International Airport is currently closed with plans to open in a phased approach starting on August 15, 2020. We are targeting October 2020 for our re-opening.
Q: Is your restaurant open?
A: Yes, our restaurant is open for lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. by reservation. We are also delivering pre-made meals, snacks, soups and other items on a weekly basis. Please inquire for further details.
Q: What new cleaning routines/rules does Leaning Palm Resort have now in relation to COVID-19?
A: At Leaning Palm Resort as well as in our on-site restaurant, Wild Canes, hygiene and cleanliness are always prioritized. We are following the protocols outlined my the Ministry of Health and the Belize Tourism Gold Standard Certification requirements. You can learn more here: Response to Coronavirus
Q: How do we handle food at our restaurant due to Covid-19?
A: We are following all protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health. Dining at Wild Canes is be reservation only so we can ensure the safest dining experience. Your private table is prepared just prior to your arrival and just for you with fresh linens and tableware. All staff are required to wear masks and hand washing is required before and after each visit to your table. All seating in our restaurant is distanced a minimum of 6 feet apart. We are offering beach side dining on our beach side decks which provide for a lot of social distance. Menu selections are being communicated from a distance and/or via text messages via FaceBook messenger or WhatsApp.
We will be modifying the meal plans offered to overnight guests to allow for the best social distancing situation. You can learn about these changes from our on-site restaurant, Wild Canes here.
Q: If I checked in at Leaning Palm Resort and it turns out that another guest is ill from the Coronavirus, what kind of help/support can I expect?
A: As required by Belize Tourism Board's Gold Standard requirements, a response plan has been put into place for responding to a case where a guest or staff member becomes sick. Our staff is trained to implement this plan which includes communication with the Ministry of Health. To learn more about this plan you can go here: Response to Coronavirus
Q: Are there any specific requirements that must be undertaken prior to my travel to Belize?
A: Yes. You will be required to download the Belize Health App and complete the required information prior to boarding the flight to Belize. A QR code with a unique ID number will be returned to you, and will be used for contact tracing while in Belize.
All visitors travelling to Belize will be required to take a Covid-19 test. You have 2 options:
1. Take a Covid-19 test within 72-hours of travel. Passengers who present a negative PCR test upon arrival, will be able to utilize the ‘fast track’ entry lane for much faster arrival processing.
2. Passengers who do not have a negative test will be required to undergo testing by the Ministry of Health upon arrival. This is at a cost to the passenger and the exact amount will be made available shortly. Results are generally available within 15-30 minutes.
Q: What if a passenger tests positive for Covid-19?
A: Passengers arriving to Belize who test positive for Covid-19 will be placed in an approved quarantine facility for a minimum of fourteen (14) days. Individuals must have two negative Covid-19 tests at the end of this period before they will be considered as ‘cleared’ from the virus. The cost of quarantine is the sole responsibility of the passenger. It is recommended that travellers explore the possibility of acquiring travel insurance prior to their Belize vacation.
Q: Which airlines will provide service to Belize upon re-opening?
A: To date, three airlines have confirmed resumption of service when the international airport is reopened on August 15th:
~American Airlines – Miami to Belize, daily service (resumes August 18th)
~United Airlines – Houston to Belize, 5 times per week (resumes August 15th)
~Delta – Atlanta to Belize, 3 times per week (resumes September 3rd)
Q: Is it possible to rent a vehicle while on vacation in Belize for transportation purposes?
A: During phase 3 of reopening for international leisure travel, rental car companies will not be permitted to rent vehicles to international visitors. Transportation providers include approved Gold Standard tour operators, Gold Standard accommodations approved for phase 3 reopening. Leaning Palm Resort has established a partnership with a Gold Standard tour operator to provide this service to our guests.
Q: Will I be required to wear a mask while traveling in Belize?
A: Yes. By law, all citizens and visitors to Belize must wear a face mask when in public spaces. While at Leaning Palm Resort masks are required when interacting with the staff and other guests. There is plenty of room for social distancing in which case you will be able to remove your mask and breathe in the Caribbean Sea air.
